Dedicated to the Multi-Event

20 in 2: The Icosathlon, (also referred to as the Double Decathlon) is a track and field competition in which the athlete must complete all twenty track and field events over two days (which includes completing a standard decathlon in addition to the ten other events,) scoring points using IAAF scoring formulas and new formulas for the 10 additional events.  It is a grueling test of an athlete's endurance, specific technical skill, explosive strength, jumping and running ability.  After finishing seventh in the 2005 World Championship, I began to train for more.  This is the blog of my journey, dedicated to promoting multi events, including the Icosathlon, as well as promoting a friendly, healthy track and field community...

Belladeca!

Coach Dan Steele, the Associate Director of Track and Field at the University of Oregon is organizing Belladeca, a women's (and for the next two years ONLY a women's) decathlon, August 30-31, 2008.  The time for this kind of meet is long overdue, and I give tremendous applause to Dan for putting this on.  As dangerous as this event is to a woman's reproductive system and her ability to conceive, I hope the turnout is good and we see some new national bests or possibly a new world record.

Carolina, you're bored with the hept?  Grab a pole, see you in Eugene.

New Calendar

Most local schools recently published their track schedules, and a newly updated, comprehensive list of track meets in N. California (and a little beyond) is available here.  There have been some date changes for meets from last year, only three USB all-comers, no Sac State Open, and other changes from 2007.

Ode to 'Sone...

Cortisone, my favorite therapeutic substance.

Ibuprofen, fleeting (but I still love you, Ibuprofen!),

Ice, so cold and debilitating.

Lidocaine - you can only mask, and endorphins, stall.

But cortisone, oh cortisone, you provide for my spine

Relief

For days and weeks and months.

I love you, cortisone.

As you may or may not be able to tell, my spine is doing better after the cortisone injection.  Oh, and any time a doctor that is about to stick a needle into your spine answers the question "what kind of pain is typical for this kind of procedure?" with the response "some people may feel a little pressure" he is LYING.

Oh, a typical Dimitry moment: I ran eight flying 100's in high 12 - low 13 and tagged it with a 56 400m less than 24 hours after my injection.  Came home and read the paperwork for the procedure; "no activity for 5-7 days after the injection."  Ooops.

The Reno Vault Summit has a date and location!  January 4, 5, at the Reno Livestock Center, and sponsored lodging at the John Ascuaga's Nugget.
